Dr Daphne Han


Dr Daphne Han is Consultant, Ophthalmologist at The Lasik Surgery Clinic and Singapore Vision Centre, clinics under Singapore Medical Group (SMG).

She is highly skilled in an extensive range of refractive, cataract, lens implant and general ophthalmic procedures.  In Singapore and Asia, Dr Han teaches LASIK and ReLEx® SMILE, cataract surgery and general ophthalmology to fellow doctors.

She was previously Consultant in Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Refractive Surgery Departments at SNEC, where she practised for 14 years and awarded SingHealth excellence and long service awards. She was Adjunct Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS. A clinician investigator at Singapore Eye Research Institute, she held an NMRC grant in myopia research. She is an examiner, invited speaker, author of and reviewer for textbooks and scientific articles in local and international peer-reviewed journals, and active in charity eye treatments in the region.

Dr Han held multiple scholarships since age 15 (ASEAN, PSA and Australian Undergraduate Equity and Merit Scholarships). She obtained Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from University of Melbourne, Australia’s top-ranked medical school in 1997, then trained in several hospitals in England including Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. She was first choice candidate for London’s King’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital Ophthalmology rotations in 2000. She obtained her Fellowship in Ophthalmology at SNEC, and was trained in refractive surgery by Professor Theo Seiler, world’s pioneer LASIK surgeon and inventor of corneal cross-linking, at the Institute of Refractive and Ophthalmic Surgery (IROC), Zurich, Switzerland. She also trained in Cataracts and Anterior Segment Reconstruction with Dr Robert Osher and Dr Michael Snyder, America’s renowned eye surgeons, at Cincinnati Eye Institute, USA. She is one of a handful of international ophthalmologists certified for implantation of the Humanoptics Artificial Iris.

Dr Han is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Dr Han was previously editor of student publications at Raffles Girls’ Secondary and at university. She is fluent in English, Mandarin, Hokkien and Cantonese.
