How Does ZEISS SMILE® pro 2.0 Work?
Lenticule Creation
A lenticule and a small incision (2–4 mm) is made within the cornea.
Lenticule Removal
The lenticule is removed through the incision, with minimal corneal disruption.
Vision Correction
The removal changes the cornea’s shape, correcting vision.
- In less than 10 seconds for each eye, a low energy laser creates a tiny piece of refractive lenticule and an opening as small as 2mm on the cornea surface.
- The eye surgeon then removes the lenticule through the small opening.
- Removing the refractive lenticule changes the shape of the cornea and the way light bends into the eye, and this corrects the refractive errors.
Typically, the patient has a functional vision the following day, which improves and stabilises overtime. There is minimal downtime after ZEISS SMILE® pro 2.0 procedure.

ZEISS SMILE® pro 2.0 is designed to be a gentle procedure. Most patients describe it as comfortable. You may feel slight pressure for a few seconds during treatment, but it is generally not painful.
Because ZEISS SMILE® pro 2.0 is flapless and minimally invasive, there is less disruption to the corneal nerves. This means the risk of dry eyes is generally lower compared to other laser eye surgeries. Some patients may experience temporary dryness, which usually improves as the eyes heal.
Recovery is usually smooth and relatively quick. Most patients achieve functional vision the next day and are able to resume normal daily activities shortly after. Vision continues to improve and stabilise over time.
